Stretch Marks: Prevention And Treatment During Pregnancy

More than half of all pregnant women will develop stretch marks during their pregnancy. Otherwise known as striae gravidarum, stretch marks look like streaks on the surface of the skin, and may be vary in color depending on your natural skin color. Most lighter skinned women develop pinkish stretch marks, whereas darker skinned women tend to have stretch marks that are lighter than the surrounding skin.

Most women develop stretch marks on their abdomen during pregnancy, however it is also common to get stretch marks on the buttocks, hips, breasts and thighs. In some cases up to 90 percent of women have stretch marks on some part of their body as a result of pregnancy.

What Causes Stretch Marks?
Stretch marks form when your skin is stretched rapidly as happens during pregnancy. Most women develop stretch marks during the later trimesters of pregnancy though some women start to develop them as soon as their bellies start growing.

Stretch marks are actually small tears that form in the tissue that supports the skin and helps it stretch. Stretch marks represent the tearing or separation of collagen from the skin when tearing occurs. Stretch marks are not harmful or painful and usually fade over time.

Who Gets Stretch Marks
Many women believe that using lotions and creams help prevent stretch marks. Realistically speaking however, the number of stretch marks you get depends on how elastic your skin is. The elasticity of your skin usually relates to your genetic make up. The best thing you can do is find out if your mother got bad stretch marks during pregnancy. If she did, you are probably more prone to stretch marks than other women.

Keep in mind the more weight you gain during pregnancy the more likely you are to have stretch marks. Normally the skin is elastic and capable of stretching quite a bit, however for some women the changes that occur during pregnancy are very drastic. These rapid fluctuations of weight and skin stretching can result in stretch marks.

Women with multiples are more likely to get stretch marks because their bellies usually grow much larger than women with single pregnancies. Other women likely to develop stretch marks include women who gain a lot of weight quickly during their pregnancy and women who carry big babies.

Here are some other factors that may contribute to your susceptibility to stretch marks:

* If you developed stretch marks before (like on your breasts during puberty) you are more likely to get stretch marks while pregnant.

* If you had stretch marks during another pregnancy you will usually get them again.

* If you are overweight or gain more weight than recommended you are more likely to get stretch marks.

* The better hydrated and well nourished you are the less likely you are to develop serious stretch marks.

Stretch Mark Prevention
Most women believe that they can prevent stretch marks by using creams and lotions. There are many formulations on the market today that claim to help prevent stretch marks. Some of these may help moisturize your skin and reduce itching. They may help reduce some stretch marks however there are no scientific studies that support this.

You probably know at least one parent however that swears by cocoa butter or some other formulation to prevent stretch marks. If nothing else rubbing these creams into your belly provides your unborn baby with a light and comforting massage. They may also give you peace of mind knowing you did everything possible to prevent stretch marks.

The best thing you can do to minimize stretch marks aside from using any creams or moisturizers you select is gaining the recommended amount of weight during pregnancy. Doctors recommend most women gain between 25 and 34 pounds. Gaining much more than this can cause you to develop more stretch marks.

Removing Stretch Marks
Most women worry about stretch marks after they have their baby. Fortunately most stretch marks do fade with time. Usually after 12 moths postpartum most stretch marks are light and less noticeable. Their texture may remain different from the surrounding skin however. Many women notice their stretch marks fading into whitish lines that are minimally noticeable.

Some women have very severe stretch marks that impact their self esteem after pregnancy. There are many treatments available for women that want to improve the appearance of their stretch marks.

If your stretch marks are particularly bad, you may consult with your doctor or a dermatologist. Some topical treatments such as tretinoin cream can help reduce stretch marks. These creams must be used after pregnancy however, because they can cause defects in your unborn baby.

Most of the topical treatments available should be used shortly after delivery, before they start to fade. The more time that passes between the delivery and use of cream, the less likely they are to be effective.

If you are breastfeeding it is important you consult with your doctor before using any stretch mark treatments. Some treatments may impact your milk supply or pass through the breast milk to your baby.

Most of the creams available to reduce stretch marks do not help relieve the sagging skin that also accompanies childbirth. There are some newer treatments including laser treatments however that may improve the skins elasticity and help reduce stretch marks. Some women also consider plastic surgery after they are done having children. A tummy tuck can help hide some stretch marks and reduce sagging skin.

Most women are able to joyfully overlook stretch marks when they consider the miracle of life they bring into the world. For the most the small annoyance even the worst stretch marks bring are well worth the joys of bringing a newborn baby into the world. Do what you can during pregnancy to maintain an appropriate weight and try not to worry too much about stretch marks. Many women wear them with pride, a ‘war wound’ or “badge of honor” related to their pregnancy. Why not wear them with pride?

Does Mother’s Friend Cream work to prevent stretch marks during pregnancy?
A few women who have had children before recommended this cream to me. I ordered it and when i opened the container it was a pinkish cream that smelled like Johnson’s baby lotion. Has anyone used this before? Did it work for you?

    • ANSWER:
My doctor told me its pretty much genetics, age, and the about of weight you started at and gain.

^Besides the weight none of those are really changeable. She said just use a moisturized for the itching and if you get stretch marks deal with then afterwards with exfoliating creams and such.

Most of the people that say the oils and stuff “REALLY WORK!” are the genetically lucky ones that just werent going to get stretch marks anyways.

Heres something that really worked well for me afterwards to help the stretch marks fade:

Try a cream with Alpha-hydroxy acid in it. It really works. I had my baby three months ago and had pretty bad stretch marks on my stomach and sides and decided to try this because my doctor suggested it but I wanted to see if I was really working or if they were just fading on their own accord. So I only put the alpha hydroxy acid on my stomach. Well my stomach stretch marks are now skin colored and faded and my side ones are still angry purple. It really worked!

If you just wanna try it out a cheap one you can get it Walgreens Nature’s Finest Alpha Hydroxy Face Cream (thats what I use and its only .99 at walgreens)

Its like exfoliating your skin but since its chemical it goes slightly deeper and works better (not too deep. Still completely safe)

Also it may sting a little when you first put it on but since it really works I deal with it. Its not that bad.

What is the best stretch mark cream for during pregnancy?
I am 20 weeks pregnant. I havent gotten any stretch marks from pregnancy yet, but I do have some that are prior pregnancy. I want to get rid of the ones I have now, and prevent the ones I may get. What did you used and how well did it helped you. Also did u use it during pregnancy?

what is the best cream during pregnancy to prevent stretch marks?

    • ANSWER:
k, there are a lot of creams out there, but personally I used good old fashioned petroleum jelly, and I used it religiously day and nite. I went from 110 lbs to 180, and only have a “stretch” on each side, which is barely noticable.
A lot has to do with your genes, but drink plenty of water to keep your skin more elastic.
      At any rate, congratulations.

What should I use to prevent stretch marks during pregnancy?
The thickest cream I have ever used is Bath & Body Works Shea Butter. Is this the best cream to use to prevent stretch marks? And, when during the pregnancy should I start using it?

    • ANSWER:

I got a lot of stretch marks after my first baby. So, before my second, I took Revitol Stretch Mark Prevention and it worked really well. That stuff apparently really prevented me from getting more marks. Give it a try (if you are not satisfied, I think they have 60 day money back guaranteed).

The earlier you start the better the results will be! And, by the way, of course it is 100% made of natural ingredients.

      All the best!

what are you using for preventing stretch marks during pregnancy?
i ‘m using Palmer’s Cocoa butter formula for stretch marks cream…its smells g8 but i would like to know what are others using & is the cream which i’ m using safe or not..?? would love to know that do these creams & oils prevent stretch marks or are of no use..

    • ANSWER:
I used cocoa butter daily during pregnancy and I have very few and very light stretchmarks on my upper hips and none on my belly. They are hardly noticeable. Oddly,my hips were the one place I didn’t slather with cocoa butter. Remember to butter your buns girl!!

We get stretch marks because our skin stretches rapidly and we lose moisture. Stay hydrated. Make sure you are taking in plenty of healthy fluids like juice and water. Any moistrurizer or lotion with vitamin E will be very helpful. It at all possible…make sure to get a little bit of sun daily too. Just a couple of minutes a day will do, don’t over expose. The sun causes your body to produce Vitamin D which is also good for your skin.

Best of luck and happy pregnancy!

So what can i use for the stretch mark cream, the horrible acne, the oily skin, and to erase the acne scars on my forehead chest and back.

I usually dont have acne and stuff like this when im not pregnant i know its the hormones but its still annoying but i wanna make sure its products i can use that wont hurt the baby

    • ANSWER:
First of all, no matter WHAT anyone tells you, NOTHING can prevent stretchmarks besides NOT gaining weight…Which is impossible during pregnancy. If your genetic make up has stretchmarks, you will get them no matter what, if you are not pre-disposed to get them, you won’t. It doesn’t matter how many oils or lotions or creams you use. Women who do not get stretchmarks can thank their genes, not bioOIL.
As for your acne, I suggest using some Witch Hazel. I had it very badly and I started to use witch hazel and it started to clear up.
But the oily skin…That just sometimes goes with the territory of pregnancy, some women get super dry skin, and some get super oily skin. Just make sure you are washing your face with a gentle cleanser every day.

Desiree – Are you insane? She can’t use bleaching cream! She is pregnant!

What stretch marks cream is best during pregnancy?

    • ANSWER:
There is nothing that con prevent stretch marks. You can rub lotion on you or baby oil. I heard taking baths can also help reduce the appearance by giving your body more elasticity. Also drinking water. It just depends on your body.

I was told that it depends on if your mother got them, but that isn’t true. My mom never did and I did.

What’s the best lotion/cream/oil for preventing stretch marks during pregnancy?
Been using Burts Bee-Mama Bee. Don’t really like b/c its very thick and doesn’t go on very well.

    • ANSWER:
There really is no way to prevent stretch marks. The best thing you can do to minimize them is stay hydrated from the inside out — which means drinking at least 8 LARGE glasses of water (not juice, not soda — WATER) every day. Applying lotions to the surface of your skin will not help the inner layers become more elastic — only staying hydrated will make a difference. Good luck!

What did you use to prevent stretch marks during pregnancy? Creams, exercise, etc…be specific?

Why to prevent belly itchiness during pregnancy?

What can i use to help the itchiness? Also, what strecth mark cream did you use, and did it prevent strecth marks?

    • ANSWER:
There are creams out there that can help get rid of your stretch marks, but you need to find the right one.

I found this on the site I put in the source box below:

Things to look for in a stretch mark cream

There are a lot of creams and ointments out there that claim to remove stretch marks. The best way to fight stretch marks is to increase your skins flexibility before your stretch marks start appearing by using a topical cream on the area before the skin starts to show stretch marks. If you already have stretch marks, hope is not lost. There are creams out there that contain ingredients that help heal the skin while minimizing scar tissue.

Some of the key ingredients that you will want to make sure your cream contains are:

      Vitamin A Palmitate

Vitamin A is an essential vitamin and is best known for having positive effects on vision. However Vitamin A is just as important to the largest organ; the skin.

Clinical studies have shown vitamin A to have properties that block the absorption of harmful UVA and UVB rays, as well as a stimulating effect on cell regeneration. It has been clinically shown to improve the appearance of striae (stretch marks) and regulate epidermal (skin) cell growth.

      Aloe Vera Extract

Aloe vera has been shown in clinical studies to have a positive effect on wound healing and holds anti-inflammatory properties.

As stretch marks start out as microscopic tears in skin layers due to overstretching of the dermis, aloe vera helps heal these small wounds without causing scar tissue to form, effectively preventing the appearance of stretch marks. Aloe vera has been used for thousands of years by the Egyptians, Romans, Greeks, Arabs, Indians and Chinese to decrease the appearance of scars and to moisturize and heal skin.

This extract from the aloe leaf protects skin from environmental factors and promotes skin regeneration.

      Grapefruit Seed Extract

Grapefruit seed extract is a natural antibiotic used for many different types of skin ailments. It is a powerful ingredient to aid in the healing of skin damage. Grapefruit seed extract helps to restore damaged collagen and elastin, which strengthens and retextures the skin.

As collagen and elastin are responsible for the skins elasticity, improving and stimulating production of the connective tissue cells will prevent skin from tearing and thus prevent the formation of stretch marks. The condition of the skins connective tissue also dictates how well the skin contracts after pregnancy. So not only does this compound improve the condition of your stretching skin, after the delivery it will also aid in the contraction of your skin to its previous appearance.

DL-Penthenol is the scientific name for pro-vitamin B5. It has healing properties on damaged skin as it works to improve the structure of both the lower and upper skin layers. DL-Panthenol soothes skin while stimulating cell growth and differentiation.

This ingredient aids in the regeneration of the skin, therefore aiding in reducing the appearance of existing stretch marks by replacing the scar tissue with new skin cells. It also acts to prevent stretch marks by promoting collagen and elastin production, which allows your skin to stretch without rupturing and causing stretch marks.

A cream that has shown to be highly effective at preventing stretch marks as well as healing stretch marks that you already have is called Stretch Mark Prevention by Revitol.

Whether you are afraid that stretch marks may be in your future of if they are already a part of your life, a good Stretch Mark Prevention cream is what you will want on your side!

Stretch mark cream/ oil that works?
Looking for an inexpensive stretch mark cream or oil to use during pregnancy (that works well) to treat and prevent stretch marks… any suggestions?

    • ANSWER:
      There’s no such thing.

If you’re going to get stretch marks, there is nothing you can do to prevent them. They are genetic. And anyone who says otherwise was not genetically predisposed to getting stretch marks in the first place.

@Ms.drizzy: It is not a lie. Anyone who has done a little research knows that stretch marks are genetic. Just because YOUR mother got lucky, doesn’t mean that you weren’t genetically predisposed to them through your grandmother or someone else.

Can stretch marks be prevented during pregnancy?
i am about 10 weeks pregnant, and i have heard so many different stories about stretch marks during pregnancy. some people say it is all based on genetics(if your mother had them, then you will too) but others say the can be prevented with certain types of belly cream or lotion. i really reallly want to avoid them if at all possible. can anyone tell me what they know about preventing stretch marks and if it is possible. and also if anybody who answers this has been through pregnancy wihtout getting them could you please include the lotion you used during pregnancy.

    • ANSWER:
Stretch marks reflect the separation of collagen of the skin. While not painful, the stretching of the skin may cause a tingling or itchy sensation. A good lotion can help with the increased dryness or itchiness of the skin, but will not prevent stretch marks no matter how diligent you are or how much you spend on the cream.

While many people will swear by certain creams or lotions, the truth is there is not much you can do about stretch marks, you’ll either get them or you won’t. There are some factors that you should know contribute to stretch marks:

Family (If your mom or sister has them, guess what?)

If you had them in a previous pregnancy you may get them again, although usually just a darkened (temporarily) of the old ones and a light extension sometimes.

Weight Gain (Rapid or excessive will make this worse.)

Nutritional Status (Well hydrated and healthy skin stretches better.)

Ethnicity (African American women get them less.)

On a positive note, my mom has a TON, and I got none.

what is the best stretch mark cream out there to minimize them?
So I am 30 weeks and some change πŸ™‚ I do not have stretch marks yet but just incase they decide to show up, I want to know the best stuff out there for helping them fade. I have researched a bunch of creams and I can’t tell what’s a scam or not. I AM NOT ASKING ABOUT COCA BUTTER OR BIO OIL to prevent stretch marks during pregnancy. I’m aksing about what to use if you DO get them after you have the baby… Thanks dolls. xoxo

    • ANSWER:
bio oil is good for when you already have them too, for any kind of scarring. i think cocoa butter is for prevention of stretch marks, but bio oil works for prevention AND for minimising once you already have them. i used it twice a day on scars from a surgery i had and they faded really well, also used on stretch marks around my boobs and they are now completely white and way thinner. in both situations i used the oil when the scars were already there

What cream did you use during pregnancy for your stretch marks?
I heard the cream helps skin become more elastic and will help with stretch marks. I know its hard to prevent them, but at least we can try our best to help the appearance of them.

What lotion, or cream did you use, and how were your results, please share, 10 pts!

    • ANSWER:
Babies r us sells a cream called belli. They have two types one that helps with elasticity and one that helps with stretch marks. I have heard great reviews on it, I got a free sample and I love it! I started noticing a difference pretty much right away my skin was so much softer and not itchy and my stretch marks have faded a little. (which i like)

I was told by my doctor that if you have really sensitive skin to not use coco butter because it can cause infection when your skin stretches the pores have very open and sensitive.

What did you use to prevent stretch marks during pregnancy?
I know most will say stretch marks are determined by your genes, however, I’ve always heard of women who swear by certain creams or oils throughout their pregnancies and developed little to no stretch marks, despite others in their family having them much worse than what they do.

I am almost in the second trimester and have been using Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Moisturizing Body Oil and the tub butter formula. Though I have only gained three to four lbs and have no stretch marks from the pregnancy, I am curious to know what other women’s experiences are with certain stretch mark prevention products.

What did you use? At what point did you start to use it in your pregnancy? To what degree of stretch marks did you develop, if any? What else would you recommend to women wanting to prevent stretch marks?

    • ANSWER:

Ways to preven stretch marks during pregnancy?
My friend is 7 weeks pregnant and she is freaking out over what to do with her belly button ring- take it out or leave it in and get a plastic bendy ring- and getting stretch marks. First, any belly button advise? And second, is there any cream or lotion that helps to reduce or prevent stretch marks? I’m just tired of hearing her complain…

    • ANSWER:
First, remove the ring. Her tummy will grow and stretch to the point it will eventually become uncomfortable or even sometimes tear the skin, as normal navel jewellery will become too short. Ideally go without, but if she can’t possibly bear the thought of that then substitute regular jewellery for a specially made bioflex maternity piece. Some of the better body piercing establishments will have them.

Second, you cannot prevent stretch marks. If you could nobody would ever have them.

Stretch marks are actually scars that form deep within the skin when connective tissue is stretched to capacity and snaps.

Rubbing lotions on to the surface layers of the skin cannot prevent the connective tissue from snapping.

However, rubbing lotions on your skin certainly won’t hurt you and can often make the skin more comfortable.

Stretch marks will fade from a red/purple colour to a silvery white over time.

I’d like to hear from the ladies that faithfully used creams and stuff during their pregnancies and have little to no stretch marks. What did you use?
Thanks for the great info. I don’t see any marks on my Mom, but i’m 33 and maybe they have all faded by now. For the comments like, don’t have a baby if you don’t want stretch marks – totally rude, I have a beautful home, great job, great husband and a lot of love to give so if anyone should want to bring a baby into her happy home, it’s me. I was just looking for advice. jeesh!

    • ANSWER:
I always heard cocoa butter, or bio oil. Cocoa butter is so greasy, or oily I guess. And bio oil is expensive.

I’ve just been using St. Ives lotion since I found out I was pregnant and I have yet to get stretch marks on my belly (I already had some on my hips) and I’m 32 weeks.

I was given Avon Stretch Mark and Cellulite lotion, I started using that a couple days ago, it leaves a tingly feeling so I figure that is a good sign.

It’s inevitable to avoid getting stretch marks, if your mother got them during pregnancy you more then likely will too. Just keep your skin moisturized and drink lots of water!

what are good creams to decrease the apperance of stretch marks?? or try to prevent them during pregnancy??

    • ANSWER:
I have just had a baby and have a few stretchmarks. I have been putting Bio-oil on my scars and they have faded dramatically so I tried it on my stretch marks and they have faded heaps. It’s available in chemists and at priceline.

Will I get stretch marks during pregnancy?
I’m curious. When I younger, I went through a sudden growth spurt and I did get stretch marks on the back of my legs and on my bum because of it, so is it possibly genetic? On the other hand, my mother never had stretch marks during her 3 pregnancys, she looked fabulous during and after the pregnancy.

Also will the stretch marks creams and lotions actually work in preventing them?
I’m not sure about my grandmother, though that is a good point, I’ll call her up tomorrow and ask. What about exercise during pregnancy? so you still gain the weight, but possibly not as rapidly?
I found this interesting piece of information when it comes to pregnancy and exercise..

“Exercising will help keep your weight in check, make you healthier, reduce your labor pain and diminish the stretch marks. Daily exercise will keep the skin elastic and firm and will increase your over all beauty as well. However, before integrating any exercise in your daily routine, don’t forget to consult your gynecologist.”

    • ANSWER:
It possible, most people do. Most creams dont work, at least for me.

what stretchmark cream/lotion did you use during pregnancy?
which product did you use that you would recommend to other pregnant women?
right now i’m using palmer’s cocoa butter, but i dunno if this would prevent stretch marks.

    • ANSWER:
Honestly, nothing you do is going to prevent them. If you are going to get them, you will no matter how much cream, lotion or oil you use! I used cocoa butter with vitamin E, and Bio Oil several times daily and massaged it in and still got stretch marks around the end of the 8th month. I thought I was getting lucky because my tummy looked great up until then! This happens to many women. So don’t fret if you get them, it’s nothing you caused by using the wrong lotion or something.

That being said, I have found that using the Bio Oil and Vit. E capsules help the stretch marks fade really fast. I kept using them and instead of staying the ugly red/purple color for a long time, they faded to a flesh-toned color almost as quickly as they appeared.

Good luck to you! I hope you are one of the lucky ones who don’t get any stretch marks. :]

what is the best belly oil to use during pregnancy?
What is the best oil / and or cream to use on my belly during my pregnancy to prevent stretch marks and moisturize?? I do love Argon oil…is this safe to use? What else have all you mom’s tried and loved? Please let me know….Thanks πŸ™‚

    • ANSWER:
Well.. for prevention of stretch marks, none of it will really work.. if you’re gonna get em, you’ll get em, if not you won’t. I knew going in that I would get stretch marks because I’m really fair skinned and my sister has them terrible from her daughter.. I used a ton of creams like Palmer’s Belly Butter and Palmer’s Stretch Mark Cream, Burt’s Bees Belly Cream, and Bella B Belly Cream. I liked Palmer’s Belly Butter the best but I have to say they ALL left my skin VERY oily and gross feeling so I could only use it right before bed so it wouldn’t bother me all day and it was impossible to get off my hands after applying it. And, of course at 16 weeks I started getting stretch marks anyway.. they’re genetic so there’s no real way to prevent them so a good moisturizer is really all you need. After 30 weeks of being miserable with oily belly creams and oils I started using St. Ives Advanced Healing for extra dry skin. It’s amazing. It doesn’t do much for my stretch marks since they’re still growing, but it absorbs into my skin extremely well and feels like I just have naturally soft skin.. it’s not sticky or oily whatsoever. I totally love this stuff! I don’t know about Argon oil though, I’ve never heard of it!

What do stretch marks look like when they first start?
Im 35 weeks pregnant and just noticed purplish red squiggly lines on my inner thighs and sides. I’m assuming they are stretch marks but they have no indentations. so i was wondering what stretch marks look like when they first appear. Im also a little worried they may be varicose veins. I have used oil, coco butter and anti stretch mark cream during my whole pregnancy. any suggestions on what else i could do to prevent the stretch marks from spreading to my stomach?

    • ANSWER:
Nothing will really prevent stretchmarks, those creams are a waste of mula in my opinion.
Mine showed up bright purple and huge. I’ve heard some of them can be so bad they’ll bleed, although i’ve never experienced that myself. Mine were always shiny purple and very noticeable, I also didn’t get them until about a week before I delivered… Stupid things trying to trick me into thinkin I wouldn’t get them… bleh.

    Stretch marks during pregnancy?
im 5 months nd gettin little stretch marks. is cocoa butter the best cream to help prevent or at least try to?

    • ANSWER:
Actually, creams and lotions do very little to prevent stretch marks, because they only affect the top layer of skin, and stretch marks originate in the deepest layers. The best way to prevent (or at least minimize) stretch marks is to stay very well hydrated by drinking lots of water. Beyond that, there’s no way to prevent them and no way to repair them other than laser surgery. Good luck!

Using Cocoa Butter Cream during pregnancy…?
I just bought a jar of cocoa butter cream that they sell at walmart. It was like for this jar. Has anyone used cocoa butter cream during pregnancy and after to prevent strech marks. Did it work for you? I only bought it because I am 20w4d with my first and I’m starting to get a tiny stretch mark on my breast. I just hope this works. I don’t want horrible stretch marks. What did you use for stretch marks? Thanks

    • ANSWER:
Coco butter cant prevent stretch marks but it helps to fade them.

Either you are prone to stretch marks or you’re not..

I am prone to them and got them on my breasts when I hit puberty, luckily those faded and you cant really see them now.

I noticed I got 5 or 6 stretch marks on my stomach after my belly started to expand..They were so dark at first and I was worried that my entire tummy would be covered in them but thankfully they have stopped for now! I bought some tummy butter from walmart (the same people who make palmers coco butter) and they faded the stretch marks within DAYS as long as you use it everyday!

Also the other thing the tummy butter helps me with is itchyness!

Options for affordable stretch mark prevention?
What are my best options to preventing stretch marks during pregnancy? Many doctors say its just genetics but I would feel better trying to help the issue in some way. There are so many different brands and then for example I have read that some people like Palmers but then there is a lotion, a cream, and a tummy butter. How do you decide? I would like to spend under a bottle. Thanks!

Can Trilastin be used during pregnancy?
I was looking for a cream to start using during my pregnancy and I came across TriLasin. Everything I seem to read say it demenished stretch marks afterwards. I am wondering if I can use this product DURING my pregnancy to possible prevent stretch marks?? Anyone know??

    • ANSWER:
You can rub any kind of cream you want in your skin but if stretch marks are in the cards for you it won’t matter. The best prevention for stretch marks is having a mom with no stretch marks because they are somewhat hereditary. Also not gaining too much weight will help you because excess fat can cause stretch marks, baby or no baby.

If you’re stuck on the cream though, right on the front page of their main website Trilastin claims to “prevent against stretch marks during pregnancy”. The words “prevent” and “during” seem to indicate you would use it while you are pregnant.

    Preventing stretch marks ?
I really do not want to get stretch marks during pregnancy so I heard there was a stretch mark cream on that worked wonders and I wanted to know if it’s true. Anyone ever tried it ?

    • ANSWER:
Unfortunately there is no cream out there which will prevent stretch marks. Stretch marks happen when your skin – specifically the lower layers of skin (the dermis) is stretched too rapidly. Lotions and cream do not reach the dermis and treat only the upper layer (epidermis).

Weather you are going to get stretch marks will depend on your genetics, and how quickly you put on weight. Try to make sure you don’t put on more than the recommended weight while pregnant. But other than that, just keep in mind they do fade with time and there’s nothing you can do.

My mom got stretch marks when she was pregnant, will I get them too?
My mom didnt take very good care of herself in either of her pregnancies. She gained about 60 lbs when she should have only gained around 30. Plus, she never did anything to prevent them, so now, she says her stomach is like a road map. I do not take after my mom hardly at all. My body type is like my dads.. extremely long legs and thin. Unluck my mom who is somewhat short and stubby. So is it possible that i could get stretch marks as bad as my moms, or could it be completely avoided since I take after my dads side of the family.. who doesnt get stretch marks.

Any advice on creams that prevent stretch marks during pregnancy would be helpful as well.
I know I sound self centered now because I worry about stretch marks, but I know that when I finally have my bundle of joy, those stretch marks will be in the back of my mind.. but in the mean time!…Advice would be great!

    • ANSWER:
Unfortunately, stretch marks are NOT preventable. you either get them or you don’t. my mom didn’t get stretch marks but i’m covered in them.

    Pregnancy Products that work?
Im wondering if theres a good stretch mark cream that actually does WORK during pregnancy to help prevent them some.

Also…has anyone used anything good for pregnancy acne that worked good? My face is horrible looking and my old acne wash isnt working anymore!

    Thanks for any help!

    • ANSWER:
I don’t know about acne, but there are no creams or lotions that prevent stretch marks. Stretch marks occur in the deep, underlying layers of skin — creams and lotions only treat the top layer. The best way to prevent stretch marks (or at least keep them to a minimum) is to stay very well hydrated by drinking lots of water, which keeps ALL the layers of your skin elastic.
