Homemade Moisturizer For Face Dry Skin

Homemade Moisturizer Recipes

Over the years, skin will take a fair old beating. It has to cope with the wear and tear of everyday life, and although designed to do so – it doesn’t always look it’s best. But a few simple treatments can keep your skin looking beautiful, refreshed and young for many years to come.

This homemade moisturizer is full of the rich and nourishing oils which your skin will surely benefit from. Sweet Almond and Avocado oils are praised world wide for their regenerative and moisturizing properties, making this beauty recipe a sure bet to keep your skin looking radiant for longer. Lemon and Geranium essential oils have been added as well to revitalize and refresh your skin – they also smell beautiful together.

Ingredients:
40ml (1 1/2 fl oz) Sweet Almond Oil
20ml (1 fl oz) Avocado Oil
15g ( 1/2 oz) Beeswax
30ml (2 tbsp) Mineral Water
2 drops Lemon Essential Oil
1 drop Geranium Essential Oil

Equipment required:
Stainless steel saucepan
Wooden spoon
Dark or clear glass jar with lids

Method:
Pour the oils into a heavy-bottomed stainless steel pan to melt, then warm the water. Once warmed, beat the water into the oils slowly.

Remove from the stove and stir mixture until it cools to around body temperature. At this point, stir in the essential oils, combining them thoroughly. This should form a smooth cream.

Poor or spoon the mixture into your glass jars and shake them until the cream is completely cooled. This will insure that the oils and the water do not separate while the mixture is still warm. Store them in clear glass jars, preferably in dark places to insure the essential oils are well protected from the light.

Once you’ve mastered the homemade beauty recipe above, why not step it up a gear and attempt this more difficult moisturizer recipe? The Cocoa Butter Moisturizer is a little bit stiffer than the recipe above, and even more rich as well. But in essence, they do the same thing. It’s which one you prefer the texture and aroma of. This recipe has some more flexibility with the essential oil, and is more forgiving of the fragrance choice. You could, if you so wished, remove the essential oil from the recipe completely. You can also use Olive oil, which is more common than Almond or Avocado oil. However, to optimise results, we highly recommend you use Almond or Avocado.

Ingredients:
1 tsp Dried or 1 tbsp Fresh Chopped Herb, chosen to suit skin type. (Camomile or Elderflower will suit dry or mature skin, the more common herbs Parsley and Rosemary will suit normal to oily skin).
150 ml (5 fl oz) Water
3 tbsp Cocoa Butter
1 tbsp Beeswax
125 ml (4 fl oz) Almond, Avocado, Olive or Safflower Oil
3 drops Essential Oil such as Rose, Lavender or Geranium (Optional)

Equipment required:
Saucepan
Double boiler/Bowl and saucepan
Dark or clear glass jars with lids

Method:
Place your chosen herb and the water in a saucepan and bring to the boil. Cover it and allow liquid to simmer for five minutes. Allow to cool, then strain. This is what we call a Herbal Decoction. Place this to one side.

Place your cocoa butter and the beeswax in the top of a double boiler. Alternatively, if you do not have a double boiler, you can use a saucepan of water with a bowl set on top. Melt the butter and wax together gently on a low heat.

Slowly and gradually beat in the oil.

Once all the oil has been added, remove from the heat entirely and beat in 2 tbsp of the Herbal Decoction you made earlier. If you are using an essential oil, add that now as well.

Allow the mixture to cool, stirring often.

Poor or scoop the cream into your jars and allow to cool completely. Store the jars in a dark place to protect the essential oils (if your using any).

    • ANSWER:
β€’ For dry skin use a creamy cleanser to melt away dirt.
Leave it on your skin before sweeping it away with cotton wool.
Splash cold water onto your face to clean and refresh your skin.
Use a thick cream moisturiser to seal in as much moisture as possible.

β€’ Make a puree of 1 banana and 1 papaya, peach or avacado. Apply to skin.
Leave on for at least 20 minutes then rinse with warm water, followed by a
moisturizer of natural margarine or natural vegetable oil.
β€’ Apply natural mayonnaise, either homemade or from natural foods store.
Massage into skin, leave on for 15-20 minutes, rinse thoroughly with warm water.

β€’ Grate the rind of one whole lemon into 4 tablespoons plain yogurt.
Mix and rub over entire body concentrating on the driest patches. Rinse.

β€’ Mix 1 cup of boiling water with 1/2 cup of bran and let cool.
Immerse hands into mixture and massage into hands. Rinse with warm water
and follow with a hand moisturizer.

β€’ To treat extremely dry skin, mash a Banana and a tablespoon of Honey to it.
Apply on the skin, leave on for 10 minutes and wash off.

β€’ Mix together 24ml Apricot Kernel Oil, 5 drops of Petitgrain Oil,
4 drops of Sandalwood Oil and 3 drops of Camomile oil.
Apply as a mask for 10 minutes or massage on to your face.
It will rejuvenate tired and dull skin.

β€’ Blend together 24ml Jojoba Oil, 4 drops of Patchouli Essential Oil,
3 drops of Sandalwood Essential Oil and 2 drops of Rosewood Essential Oil.
Use this blend for a facial massage to help dry skin.

β€’ Blend together 1 egg yolk, 1 teaspoon orange juice, 1 teaspoon olive oil,
few drops of rose water and few drops of lime juice and apply on your skin.

β€’ After you clean and tone your skin, apply a splash of water or a water-misting.
Pat almost dry with a soft towel, then smooth moisturizer from bosom to hairline.
Allow 5 min for immediate absorption (cover your face and throat with warm
washcloths to hasten penetration). Blot off any excess moisturizer with a tissue.

  14. QUESTION:
what are some good homemade face masks? EASY 10 POINTS!?
I’m 17 and I want to make sure I have good skin even when I’m older. The thing is..I break out easily and get acne if the face mask is too oily. But at the same time I need OILY face masks because my skin is always extremely dry, especially under my eyes and my eyelids, & that’s bad because that can cause wrinkles(after I wash my face lightly…it gets that way even if I just wash it with water). Antioxidants are good too in these masks! πŸ™‚ Also HOW DO YOU MAKE a homemade healthy moisturizer for your face that doesn’t cause acne?!

    • ANSWER:
I have loads of recipes, but I’m just going to give you one, because with your skin type that’s all you need. My skin was JUST like yours when I was your age and this saved it!

      One ripe avocado, chilled

Yes, that’s the entire recipe πŸ™‚ Really, all you need to do is put the peeled/pitted avocado in a blender until it’s smooth and then apply to your skin and let it sit for ten minutes before rinsing. It’s simple, packed with natural oils and nutrients, and won’t clog your pores or cause acne.

I always teamed this up with cool cucumber slices for my eyelids at the same time. The easiest routine ever, with the absolute best results.

Anyway, good luck with whatever you use, and I hope you give this a try.

  15. QUESTION:
bad acne, dry skin…What products should i use?
I used to have really bad acne so i have some scars, also my skin has been dry dry lately so i started using this vasoline for men face and body lotion on my face, it just makes my face oily and now i am breaking out pretty bad. What are some exfoliating products and moisturizing products for men? I would rather not mess around with homemade things. Also is there any other products i should be using for good skin care? I also have very large pores and 3 pretty large wrinkles on my forhead.

I have been using my moms body moisturizer and exfoliating cream the last few days and i really can tell and see the difference already but I want something for guys.
Yeah i know it wont make me into a girl, but i don’t like smelling like a girl.

    • ANSWER:
The less products you use, the better for your skin. Use a bath & body wash like Suave, Irish Spring, Dove Bath & Body wash in the shower, use a washcloth. Treat your face like the rest of your body, take a shower everyday or wash your face everyday.

The secret is keeping your face clean and oil-free. I also don’t use liquid on my face for anything, and very little moisturizer, not even a dime size. Since my face is not dry. Good skin also comes from your good genes. Increase your fresh fruits & vegetables 3-5 servings per day. And programmed your mind to do this day after day, for the rest of your life.

Acne medication could worsen what ever allergies you have, so instead of trying out one product after another, you’re actually spreading it around.
Smoking has been shown to make acne worse since it diminishes the delivery of oxygen to the skin and robs it of nutrients, thereby inhibiting cars from healing. Not enough reason to quit? Smoke depletes moisture, making skin lose its luster and look wrinkly.

The beauty industry is a billion dollar business, they know acne is everyone’s problem, but instead of saying soap is drying for you, they have to invent an acne product that can worsen the skin as MANY TEENAGERS have experienced during hormonal change, but as you get older those are completely a waste of time & money!

For your wrinkles, stop rolling your eyebrows.

  16. QUESTION:
What can i do about my dry skin?
I’ve tried numerous cleansers, moisturizers and foundations.. but they all leave me with one problem. MY NOSE IS SO DRY. You can tell when the foundation is on.. No where else. But my nose. My current moisturizer is amazing for my face except for that area. When I apply moisturizer+primer+foundation it still leaves my nose dry looking! I cleanse to remove eye makeup at night, then exfoliate and moisturize…. Are there any homemade tips on how to help this? ive tried olive oil and vitamin e. but i dont have honey… anything i can try??!
i just bought a new moisturzing foundation and seems to be same old same old..

    • ANSWER:
i got the same problem, this is gross but i take siccors(sp) and scrape it off, dont press hard lol. (nail file also works but be gentle)

  17. QUESTION:
Home made face mask: does this seem good?
I have very oily, dry skin and I want to try a homemade face mask. I’ve been researching and trying to figure out what are the actual properties of the ingredients in these things, and so I was going to mix honey, banana, and yoghurt or cream together and try that. Do you think this will work or do is this more just a moisturizer? Do I need to add something else for the acne specifically?
Yes, my skin type is oily and dry. As in, my skin does not retain moisture, and gets greasy extremely easily.

    • ANSWER:
Hmmm, you’re on the right track XD Honey is used in natural face masks to treat acne, I’m not exactly sure of the actual acne-clearing properties.. but it does work. I’ve been doing my own research and I found that banana applied to the skin doesn’t have that much affect (eat them, they can help clear the skin.) The same with yogurt, eat it instead of applying to the skin.
A few ingredients that I use in my face masks are; tomatoes (contain a natural acid to help reduce the swelling of ance and get rid of acne scars), baking soda (similar ance-clearing properties as tomatoes-don’t use a lot though,) white all purpose flour and grapes (both are skin detoxifiers,) and finally I use an egg (both parts) it really helped with my oily skin. Check out Bubzbeauty on Youtube, she has many DIY face masks <3

  18. QUESTION:
    Good homemade face masks?
So I usually have really nice skin, not to brag or anything. I’ve just never had any problems with it. I don’t us any products (other then make up) But it’s never been oily or dry and it’s always been clear. I’ve been blessed with a nice complexion. Yet recently it’s been kind of dry and you can tell when I wear foundation so I haven’t been. I’ve also been using Cetaphil cleanser and moisturizer which helps at the time and then an hour later it’s dry. I drink plenty and stuff and i’m hydrated. I know you can buy masks and stuff but I prefer natural products so I was just wondering if anyone had any good at home recipes made from like yogurt and fruit and stuff, mainly for dry skin I guess! It would mean alot if you could give me some ideas :). Thanks in advance!

  19. QUESTION:
What homemade face scrubs/masks have you tried?
I’m 16 and I have oily skin and some dry spots.
I’d like to use natural things on my face, not store bought.
The one mask I use now is half honey half milk, and it’s a really great moisturizer!
However, my mom doesn’t want me wasting stuff, so I don’t want a recipe that calls for like avacados and weird powders.
Just like, a smooshed banana and honey or something!
Also, I’ve read about the egg mask, but my mom thinks that’s wasting eggs.
    I’ll try it anyway xD
What else is out there? What do you use?
    Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
that’s sad she won’t let you get the avacados, they’re awesome for skin.
Try oatmeal, a little cocoa powder, milk… it’ll be moisturizing and gentle exfoliant. (doesn’ taste bad either)
You can also make a hair mask with a couple egg whites, 1/2 can of beer, and mayo. blend it up and put it on. Sit for as long as you can stand the smell then wash well!

  20. QUESTION:
i have an irritation or something from lack of hydration..small acne-like bumps on my face..?
they are same color as skin..and i know that they appear because my face becomes dry especially after a shower or lack of moisturizer… but now it is especially bad, my face is full of those small bumps…i need a really good oil-free all day hydrating moisturizer…can’t find one..it would be nice if it is also non-comedogenic. i’m a teen, so preferably, no aging treatment formulas for now πŸ™‚
or if u have any ideas about reallly powerful hydrating homemade masks, i would be extremely greatful. and when i mean hydrating i DON’T mean mayonaise masks for dry skin that would make it more oily instead. i need some ‘water’ in my face! and i began drinking 8 glasses a day..so any on face homemade treatments or over the counter hydrating moisturizers?
    cheers

    • ANSWER:
Neutrogena oil-free moisturizer is really good. I would not use any homemade stuff on my skin, yuck. Might make things much worse. Your pores are probably clogged too.
Try any Neutrogena products, I have had the best luck with them if you need good quality and not too expensive.

  21. QUESTION:
what am i doing wrong to my face?
about a month ago my forehaed started to break out. not two bad just about 3-5 pimples at once. i had never gotten anything like that before just a pimple or two at onnce. i cant figure out why its doing that. here is what i do on my facial routine which i havent changed for about 2 months. MORNING- i wash face with cetaphil gentle cleanser, apply homemade green tea toner, then NEOSTRATA moisturizer. NIGHTIME- remove makeup with physicians formula organic make up remover. wash face with clean&clear 3 in1 cleanser. homemade toner, body shop tee tree oil face clearing lotion( i only use a pea sizer amout) then 100%pure jojoba oil, (i have dry skin so my skin really needs that moisture) all my face products do not clog pores. also i use a yoghurt mask once a week and a kaolin clay mask once a week. i change my pillow case all the time, i get alot of sleep, i exercize a descent amount, i drink about 4-6 cups of liquids a day, i keep my hair off my face. i am 15 years old. do you know what could be causing my breakouts? thank you very much πŸ˜€

    • ANSWER:
You are on the right track for sure. Your routine sounds good, seems like you are using the right stuff. Maybe it is just the brands that are not working for you. Try OXY, that is what I use and I have not had a breakout in probably 3 months and I have been using it for maybe 3 months and 2 weeks.
Also, small things like changing your pillow cases, washing your make-up brushes, eating a healthy diet, drinking water (which you are doing), showering after sports, don’t pick your pimples, don’t rub your face, pat dry it, etc will help your breakouts also.
      Good luck.

  22. QUESTION:
Skin care help for mild acne?
I’m just about 16 and I’ve had acne since middle school that hasn’t cleared up. It was mostly on my forehead but lately it has been everywhere. What can I do to clear my skin?
    -My skin care routine-
    – Shower at night, wash my face with Biore blemish fighting ice cleanser then apply clindamycin phosphate (Acne prescription gel)
I’ve cut down from using a toner then the prescription and will still sometimes use an oil free moisturiser but not often.
-Once a week, I use a homemade exfoliator that consists of sugar, apple cider vinegar, green tea, and honey.
    -Look of skin-
-Dry around edges of nose from eczema (Stress)
-Since my skin is pale, it tends to get very red.
-My forehead is covered in acne along with scattered few covering my face.
    -Blackheads, mostly on my nose.
    Questions…
    What will help?
Should I wash my face twice daily?
    Thank you! πŸ™‚
I’m not looking for a dermatologists help at the moment, just tips that i can do myself (: Thank you anyway

    • ANSWER:
If you are 16, most likely puberty is the primary culprit for driving hormones wild –> oily skin –> breakouts. You have so many questions so I do not think I can provide all of your help here. I will provide sources to other answers to similar questions that I got best answer from. Another thing, I have no idea what your skin type is. If you are unsure, take the skin type questionnaire developed by world-renown and board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Leslie Baumann. You must register first before you can take the questionnaire. When you are done you can visit the specified forum that is tailored to your unique skin type for discussion and recommendation on acne treatments.

There is little difference in the principle of treatment acne anywhere on the body or face at any most severity except recalcitrant cystic acne. I will comment and answer some of your questions here. Clindamycin is a good prescription for acne, stick with it. Other stuff you need to change.

Stop using Biore Blemish Fighting Ice Cleanser. The inclusion of menthol can make your breakout worse. It consider a counter-irritant; that is, providing one type of irritant in place of another. Irritation can, in theory, irritate your oil glands –> more oil –> more acne. Alternative: Olay Foaming Face Wash, Sensitive.

Toners are no help whatsoever. They are touted in the cosmetic industry with pointless claims and they just want to make money out of you. Almost always toners (astringent, tonics, whatever) contain a hefty amount of alcohol, coloring additives, (plant) irritants such as menthol, peppermint, eucalyptus, camphor, and so on –> inflammation/irritation to oil glands –> more oil –> breakout. Alcohol can degrease oil, but it is only a temporary fix, it does not solve the underlining problem – your oil glands. You should throw away your toner. If you insist on getting a toner, use one from Paula’s Choice line of toners, all of which is free from those ingredients above.

If you have oily skin, you do not need a moisturizer. Your natural sebum produced by your oil glands function has your moisturizer. Sebum provide barrier that prevent water-loss from the skin. If you have dry patches on skin, OK, use moisturizer only on those areas.

If you have eczema, you can use 1% hydrocortisone OTC or get a prescription steroid cream from your dermatologist. Warning: do not use hydrocortisone so frequently as it does breakdown collagen over time. Use it when you have flare-ups. But of course, if you have severe eczema, use it until you have the condition under control. Follow doctor’s professional recommendation.

You can treat blackheads with salicylic acid. But if your oil glands is very wild, salicylic acid may do little to help. Try Paula’s Choice line of BHA gel or liquid, either one is great for oily/acne prone. Her whole line contain no fragrance. She is very strict on that.

Yes, you need to wash twice daily.

      Best wishes

  23. QUESTION:
How can i stop my face from being so shiny?
This is everything i use on my face.
    – Natio, Gentle Facial Scrub. *I use this at night before bed* ( GREAT stuff, keep my skin in good condition ).

    – Oil Free Moisture, SPF 15, facial moisturizer, Neutrogena *Moisturizer i use before i go to bed*

    – Nivea Visage YOUNGE ( Oil Free ). Wash off, cleansing Gel. * Use in the morning*

    – Neatrogena Moisturizer ( SPF 15 )

    – Cover Girl, Aqua Smooth, Make up, Creamy Natural * My foundation in mornings*

    – Natio, Natural cover concealer * Concealer i use in morning after foundation*

    – Maybelline New York, Shine Free, Pressed Powder, Polvo compacto * After Concealer in the morning*

My Skin is fine for a while but by the end of the day, due to the sun/sweat ( It even happened in winter) it’s very shiny and look awful. Everyone comments and I’m sick of it. I Blot with toilet paper and sometimes even the proper blotting things that i buy at the body shop, but it doesn’t fix it. If I’m out and it’s important i will reapply power, which fixes it but goes back even worse in about 10 minutes, depending on the weather.

Is there something i can do that will help it. Maybe a new suggestion of make up or face wash stuff. I’m not changing the “Natio Gentle Facial Scub” because that does wonders to my skin.
Is there anything i can put on my skin before i apply make up, preferably homemade?
    – Anything, I’m really sick of this. I know that, well i think it is because of the make up.. ( My skin is a little shiny in the morning). My Skin isn’t oily i don’t think, my skin is a little sensitive and if i use much harsher products on my skin my skin gets very dry, red and horrible feeling.

    – I see other girls that wear make up like me and their make up stays on all day and doesn’t get shiny, why is this?
Please help! By the way I’m 18.

    Please, please, please help.
    Thanks!

I see other girls that wear make up like me and their make up stays on all day and doesn’t get shiny, why is this?

well, the answer to this is that, Hun, you’re using a moisturizer with SPF in it. Anything with SPF is gonna make you shiny because its made to reflect light off of you. But in reference to the rest of your concern, i’d suggesting asking a doctor. It’s your safest bet. I have oily skin too. and it sucks! so i totally get you!

It may also be just something you’re eating perhaps? Maybe too many oily stuff? deep fried? Try eating healthier, exercise and LOTS OF WATER.

      Hope this helps β™₯

  24. QUESTION:
Does anybody know of a cream that is really good to make a even skin tone?
My skin is pretty clear, I have little acne, besides blackheads on my nose. My skin isn’t normally dry when I just wash it with water or don’t do anything to it, its a little bit oily though, on my nose. But my skin tone is not very pretty, I don’t know if it makes a difference but I have very light colored skin and the color just isn’t that smooth over my face. I drink LOTS of water and I get like an average of 7 hours of sleep a night, also I have about the normal amount of stress that every teenage girl has. Right now I am using Clean and Clear Pore Perfecting, it makes my skin soft and it kinda evens my skin tone but it drys my skin (usually I just use my moisturizer also Clean and Clear) and I have to wash my face a lot to get it all the way off or it feels funny like I didn’t wash it off at all, so it takes a long time. It also takes the tan out of my face.
I was just wondering if anyone knows a good face wash or cream or even homemade remedies that will even out my skin tone, please be specific. I have heard of lots of stuff that are supposed to be good (stuff like aveeno, shiseido, line, biore, st.ives apricot scrub, drinking water, lots of sleep, milk and brown sugar

    • ANSWER:
Try Porcelana! It isn’t expensive, and you can buy it pretty much at any drug store. It helps with discoloration of the skin. Make sure to apply it EVERY night over the areas in which you are unhappy, and slowly everything will fade. If you completely stop using it for awhile sometimes the problem areas will re-appear, but not always. My mother and I both use it and it is fantastic!

  25. QUESTION:
What are some good recipes for natural cleansers/etc for oily, sensitive, and acne-prone skin?
I am trying to cut back on costs and I decided I want to use natural, possibly homemade remedies for my skin. So, could somebody give me tips/recipes of the following (or just one of the following would be very helpful):
Cleanser (if possible, in the form of a bar soap, but if not, it needs to be something convenient. I’m a student)
    Toner
    Moisturizer
    Weekly mask
    Weekly exfoliant
Acne scar treatment (eek. bio oil certainly sounds nice, but at a bottle I can’t afford it now)

To go more into detail about my skin, my skin gets very oily when I wear makeup, and only oily around my nose (and the cheek area surrounding my nose, but not my whole cheeks) without makeup. It dries out very easily, and most cleansers leave my skin with redness. The redness subsides after about an hour, but I do have to wash my face in mornings and I don’t have time to really get up an hour earlier than I need to, lol. And, the worst part… I have acne. My worst problem is papules/pustules. I also have blackheads, and I know they are disgusting, but they aren’t my worst concern. I also have scarring from past breakouts. I know my question is long, but thanks to anybody who can answer/help me. I really appreciate it, and my skin will too.

    • ANSWER:
      Hello there,

There are three really important things you can do immediately to help stop breakouts with out dishing out allot of money.

      1. Exercise, this helps you sweat and exfoliate your skin. Remember when you exercise the more you sweat the more your are doing for your skin. It makes no sense to exercise and not sweat hard.

2.Watch what your eating,( i.e. sweets, sodas) something in your food could possibly be the cause of your breakouts. Also stress has been linked to cause breakouts too.

      3. Take a visit to your dermatologist about prescribing you some medication.

      4. Find a really good Anti-bacterial soap. I use Neem soap. It’s very good on the skin, fights the bacteria thats deep in your pores, and leaves it feeling really clean and glowing. This is a good site to find it …Ethnic Foods Company

After you’ve done these really effective things you can go purchase Aloe Vera Leaf. Its natural, fresh and cost no more than bucks. You can find the m at your local farmers market or Publix. If you cut it open and apply it to your skin it has anti-inflammatory properties that will help heal your skin very quickly, and minimize the appearance of dark spots. Trust me out of all of the medication I’ve tried, this is the only thing that I swear by. Its cheap and it actually works. Try this first before you go buying any spot medication, they are usually just gimmicks and people waste allot of money on them every year.

The bottom line is if you want to fight your acne successfully and win your gonna need to be prepared to dish out some money, especially if you want to win the war on acne.

  26. QUESTION:
Is this a good skin-care regime?
I have combination skin (very oily forehead, sometimes dry cheeks) and quite a few blackheads and spots.

First– Drinking plenty of water, eating healthily, taking vitamins and regular exercise.
Also first doing a 3 day detox.

    Morning:
Wash: Hot water, flannel and light soap or cleansing face wash?
Rinse: Cold water to close pores.
Cleanse: Natural cleanser for oily skin.
    Tone: Spray on toner.
Moisturize: (mostly on cheeks, light on forehead?)

    Wipe off makeup when home.
Night: Just wash face and moisturize? If so, wash with what?
Or: Cleanse, tone and moisturize again?

Once a week: Exfoliate, steam treatment to open pores, mud mask, lemon juice to reduce acne scars, oat & honey homemade face mask.

Does this sound good? Is there anything I should be doing more or less of? I want to keep it as natural as possible. I’m going to buy a ton of crap from The Body Shop. Any other home remedies? I use sudocrem/toothpaste for spots if I’m desperate. Also, can sun-cream be used to substitute moisturizer? If not, should I apply it before or after moisturizer? If this doesn’t work I’ll go to a dermatologist. Thanks again!

    • ANSWER:
I would lose the spray on toner. Toners dry out your skin especially the spray kind. Try a spf lotion that gradually enhances the color. At night once a week try an all natural facial and followed with a facial scrub. Also for black heads try the black head trips, i love them and they really do work. When you wipe off your makeup use a facial pad that already has the soap in it and use an eye cream to remove eye makeup. It is made to just use a rag that tugs at the skin because you want to be gentle on your facial skin.

  27. QUESTION:
    Facial skin issues, possibly allergic?
So as a general rule I’ve usually had pretty good skin with the exception of a few pimples. More recently within the past two months I’ve been having bad breakouts, and taken on a skin care routine to try and calm the pimples down. The larger more noticeable ones are now almost completely gone, but now in place of smooth skin and a few pimples, I am having very rough skin and tiny little bumps. They are hardly noticeable to anyone but myself, but I feel very uncomfortable touching my face anymore and it makes me upset.

About two weeks ago I took on a facial care routine that consisted of Aveeno Skin clarifying cleanser, a toner made of eight parts water and one part apple cider vinegar (i read it would work very well!) and loreal refinish moisturizer+clinique dramatically different moisturizer.
In addition, my hands have also become very dry and flaky.
As far as I know, I am not allergic to anything, but could this be a possibility?
Could my toner be the problem? I have also heard less then glowing reviews from clinique, and after abandoning their facial soap and toner I am concerned that the moisterizer could be a problem?
Are there any foods I should try cutting out of my diet? Or any recomendations as to products I could try (nothing to exspensive please! I really prefer homemade/natural products!)
Should I just stick it out? I’ve read that sometimes it takes time for certain products to pull dirt out of your skin and as a result you get pimples but if you wait it out it goes away?

My skin just feels horrible! It reminds me of people with oily skin who have had severe acne!
Thank you so much for all of your help!

It might be your moisturizer if it has any scents in it then it could be irritating your skin. I really like Eucerin skin creams. I use vinegar to clean my skin to but another idea is to make a beverage with it twice a day that will help clear any allergens in your body, or try a rice water toner. 28. QUESTION:
Is my skin care routine good or is it too much?
    Morning:
Cleanse: L’oreal perfect clean refreshing foaming gel wash with a muslin cloth or The Body Shop seaweed purifying facial cleanser. I use the body shop on if I am pressed for time in the morning or if I am looking rather oily along my t zone.

    Toner: Sanctuary pore refining toner.

Serum: The Body Shop Aloe Protective Serum

Moisturiser and Eye cream: From the Aloe range at the body shop.

Suncream: a L’oreal that has SPF 50 in it as my pale skin needs protecting.

    At night
Eye makeup remover: If I am wearing waterproof mascara I use my homemade eye makeup remover that is half olive oil & half water. If I am not I use the body shop Camomile water poof makeup remover – I know it is for waterproof makeup but I find I have to rub my waterproof makeup off with this and I don’t like rubbing my eyes.

Cleanser: No 7 hot cloth cleanser with a muslin cloth. At night I also double cleanse, first cleanse I leave on my skin for a couple minutes before I buff it off and then I cleanse a second time to remove what grime is left

Toner: The Body Shop Seaweed clarifying toner

Serum: Skinsystem anti wrinkle serum – generic from ASDA.

    Eye cream: A nieva one

Night cream: Olay nourishing & regenerating night cream.

I also exfoliate 2-3 times a week with either the neutrogena pink grapefruit scrub or Soap & Glory scrub your nose it in. I use pore strips twice a week and tea tree face mask twice a week. I am only 23 years old and I try to make the best care of my skin as possible. I have combination skin, slightly oily t zone and slightly dry cheeks were I get my eczema when I get my rare breakouts of eczema but my skin appears normal most the time even though it is not.

    • ANSWER:
It actually sounds like a lot but to be honest if you were one of those people who adore a fresh flawless face, this is what the routine would look like.

I would only suggest that you have a day where you don’t use any cleanser/face scrub so the natural oil can heal any area that is dried.

I don’t really get a lot of pimples (Mostly from bad food like McDonalds, :P) but then I don’t even use sunblock because all I have are greasy ones that won’t sting my skin like mad.

  30. QUESTION:
help with retin-a micro gel and acne.?
I developed mild to moderate acne a little over a year ago. The first thing I tried was Proactiv but I received no results and excessive drying. After unsuccessful results I visted the derma and was prescribed a combo of Finacea Gel and Tetracycline antibiotics. I was instructed to take the antibiotics twice a day, and morning and night use a mild non comedogenic face wash, followed by an application of Finacea Gel and then finally a non comedogenic moisturizer. For about four months this all worked and my acne cleared up completely. Then it came back. After visiting the dermatologist again, I was prescribed minocycline as an antibiotic and instructed to use the Finacea gel in the morning only and at night apply retin-a micro gel. While the retin-a micro gel has improved my acne, my skin is so dry, flakey and red. Its painful. I’ve been on this for two months. I use moisturizer. Nothing helps. Any suggestion? Homemade remedies? Success stories?

    • ANSWER:
I have severe acne. So I know exactly what you are going through. This is my favorite website : www.SilkyScents.com. They have an essential oil blend that is made for acne. I’ve personally used it. It’s oily on your face, but it really works. And for the scars, they have this free recipe. It really works to get rid of the scars. I scar easily so I would know lol. Anyways, it takes some time. It won’t go away over night. But if you use it every day, you will start to see the results after a month!! It’s called Herbal oil for acne scars – click on the Skin Care & Beauty catagory. They also have acne masks!

whitening products for me that really works for asian like me..?
i wanted to have a fair, light shade complexion..what is the best whitening products for me..like facial wash, toner, soap..if possible whitening cream with moisturizer and SPF..or is it okay to have separate whitening cream and moisturizer or SPF..im here in the phils..local products that is available here or homemade products..and also, im using glutathione now, iv used for a week, havent see the results yet..my skin is dark dull and dry..esp my face..pls help..tnx
    im in the phils..

    • ANSWER:
Oh so you’re from the philippines… I have a philippine friend from international school and she has the same problem… Asians are actually beautiful. They’re skin is nice if well taken care of.

If you want fair complexion, the best way is by avoiding direct sun. 10 seconds under it can make a difference in your color. Wear sunblock everyday.

About the products, it’s best if you use them separately. For example, use sunblock in the day and the actual whitening cream for night. If you’re looking for whitening products, buy the ones which have vitamin C in it. It makes you fairer and it reduces spots and dryness. Toners and soaps don’t really help at all so don’t waste your money on those. Imagine after applying whitening soap, it gets rinsed off so what’s the purpose?

I’m not really an expert on this but it worked for my friend. Just remember, you don’t need to be white to be beautiful. Not all caucasians are pretty, you know… in my school, a lot of white boys like asian girls. just be yourself and don’t entirely change who you are. πŸ˜‰

  33. QUESTION:
WANT TO GET RID OF YOUR ACNE?
Hey…I know this is not really a question, but I had really bad acne as a teenager and now as a young adult. My skin got much better and I want to share some ways you can get rid or reduce your acne:

    1. Use a fash wash with salicylic acid or benzol peroxide. Benzol peroxide worked best for me, but I had to discontinue using it because it discolored my skin. These ingredients can be drying so I suggest you start with only using it once a day and then after a few weeks use it twice a day—in morning and at night. Some good brands are oxy clean and biore ice cleanser.
    2. Ladies, PLEASE wash your faces at night. Especially if you wear makeup. A lot of dirt and bacteria get trapped in your pores, and this can irritate skin. I usually cleans my face with Beyond Belief Vita-C cleanser (from Sally store). After I wash my face at night, I like to go over it with a Stridex pad or a clearskin wipe.
    3. Tie your hair back when you go to sleep otherwise the oils from your hair can come onto your face. Also, I make it a point to wash my pillow covers EVERY WEEK. Your pillow is a hotspot for oils and bacteria. If you toss and turn like me, your face will touch the nastiness, so wash your pillow case every week. Just toss it in with laundry.
    4. Having a healthy diet does help clear your skin. Instead of chips, fries, and salty snacks, eat fresh fruit and veggies. It is easy to toss some grapes or a banana with your lunch. Also drink 8 to 10 glasses of water. This really does help!!!
    5. Use an oil-free moisturizer. A good one to use is one by biore with spf 15
    6. Do NOT pick at your pimples. You could get acne scars which are tougher to remove. I know it is tempting but do NOT do it.
    7. Every week I put on a face mask. I usually alternate between Freeman’s cucumber peel,, Queen Helen Mint Julep Mask, homemade egg mask, or a green tea/apple cider vinegar/honey mask. This helps relieve stress and makes skin smooth.
    8. Exfoliate only once or twice a week. You can aggravate your skin if you exfoliate too much. I like to use Queen Helene Honey Oatmeal Scrub or a facial scrub by biore.
    9. This may be an extreme step but if all else fails go see a doctor and see if birth control is an option for you. It is not for all women since it can cause blood clots and serious side effects depending on your age, health, and lifestyle (i.e. smoking). Also every woman’s body reacts differently with different hormones. Birth control may worsen your acne. For me, it worked great. My skin cleared up faster than I expected, but please discuss this with your doctor. I tried prescription grade topical ointments and it did not work. My doctor suspected that I might have a hormonal imbalance, and the pill worked like a miracle.

    Hope this helps πŸ™‚

  34. QUESTION:
What is a good routine for me?
Ok so i have become a little more proactive about my skin and my health. I drink tons of water and i wash my face 2 a day. i shower 1 or 2 a day.
But i have some questions to put it into a good routine.
Like my skin care. I have 3 cleansers! Biore, Clean and Clear, and St. Ives scrub. I like the biore for morning cuz it is very soothing and light. St. Ives i lke to use in the shower, and Clean and clear after that.
But i find that in the morning when i wash my face i can feel it being dried. and then i get really oily in the day…
So i heard you should moisturize. But i really don’t feel like telling ym mom to buy some or spend my money on something that might nt work well. So is there an at home leave on Moisturizer or do they all have to wash off? I would love a recipe.
Anything for quick acne removel too that is homemade.

As for food. I think i am very healthy. My whole fam is healthy. We all are active, my dad surfs and so do i and i love track and running.
Plus i adore fruits and veggies ( which is the prob, they never last more than a day or a week.xD)
i do eat candy once in awhile if i eat something sugary its chocolate ( like real german chocolate) and like something from partys or the store.
I don’t eat fast food most of the time like i go months with out it.

    So here is my breakfast:
    Water
Tea ( i love hot tea)
Toast ( butter and potato bread)
    and eggs and cheese.

I might have cereal sometimes or on occasion toaster pastries. !!! ( YUMMY!)

    Lunch is nothing great…
and dinner is alot of chinses tacos and itallian.

    I exercise when i can… ( i know that sounds bad) I am homeschooled so i don’t really do P.E. =/ all tho i would love to, i just don’t…

So am i healthy??? what can i do to make it better?

    Thanks a ton!

    • ANSWER:
This is a good skin care routine. Especially since your probably over puberty, you shouldn’t be breaking out very much, so your skincare routine shouldn’t consist of much. As you get older, start investing in more expensive products (don’t forget less, is more) as well as a few anti-wrinkle treatments.
