Does anyone know where I can get an external Laptop battery charger in Hyderabad or Chennai?
I am looking for an external laptop battery charger as my laptop is not able to charge the battery. Here is a link for one such device. http://www.amazon.com/External-Laptop-Battery-Charger-Inspiron/dp/B001LWWHOI I am looking for something like this albeit one that can charge HP batteries.

    • Ďɛѵ says:

In Hyderabad, go to CTC (Chenoy Trade Center) in Park Lane near Paradise circle, Secunderabad.

There go to Shiva Sakti Electronics shop. It is in ground floor itself near front of parking area. This store have all kinds of adaptors and chargers.

What type of AA battery should I use for my electronic toothbrush?
It says in the manual to only use alkaline batteries, however I want to buy rechargeable batteries for it to limit the waste.

I can’t find anything in the UK that can charge alkaline batteries, so would it be ok to use another form of battery, like rechargeable Ni-Cd or something in a toothbrush that says only to use alkaline?

By the way it came with the 2 non-rechargeable alkaline batteries that are suitable which are 1.5V.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How long is the battery life on the xbox 360 battery pack?
I was planning to get a battery pack and charger for my xbox 360 controllers but I was wondering if it’s worth and what the battery life is, or if it’s better to just get a battery charger and rechargeable AA batteries.

    • Scotty Boy says:

dont use those. get a battery charger and some duracell nimh rechargeable batteries 2000mah and up. you wont regret it.

  6. adjl_12 says:

What types of battery packs does the Xbox 360 wireless controller have?
I heard that there’s an official Microsoft rechargeable battery pack that can be used with the Play and Charge Kit, and another one that’s only a “shell” battery compartment that you attach to your controller and use normal disposable batteries for it. Which kind of battery pack is included when you buy an Xbox 360 Wireless Controller?

    • Royston says:

The Rechargeable Battery Pack for the Xbox 360 controller contains two AA nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries inside a sealed casing, with a custom connector on the rear to allow charging through the Xbox 360 controller itself.

What is the difference between an original Apple MacBook battery and the replacement batteries?
I am looking to buy a new battery for my MacBook. I am looking to buy it on eBay. I notice there are two types of batteries on sale. One is an “original” MacBook battery, which I’m assuming is a brand new battery. The second is a rechargeable battery (like the ones sold on the Apple website). Is there a difference between these two or are is the difference really just that the ones that say “original” are actual Apple batteries. The other ones do not say “Apple,” so I’m assuming they’re just generic batteries.

    • Sean H says:

Usually there are the Apple batteries (like the original one that came with the Macbook) and the non-Apple batteries. The Apple batteries will typically be of better quality, i.e. last longer on a charge, have more charge cycles, etc but it’ll cost more. The non-Apple batteries will save you a fair bit but you won’t get the same performance out of them.

If $$ isn’t a concern stick to the Apple batteries. However, it is eBay so be careful who you buy from. There’s bound to be some sellers trying to pass non-Apple batteries as genuine Apple batteries.

Another alternative is buying from an Apple accessory manufacturer directly. Like Fastmac for instance: http://www.macnn.com/articles/07/02/09/fastmac.macbook.battery/

Pontiac Sunfire battery not getting a charge?
I drive a 1996 Pontiac sunfire I have been having issues with the battery and alternator. I had them check at several places but one person said the alternator is from autozone for one thing and that the regulatory or something is not give off to the battery to charge it. What seems to be the problem

    • mdk68gto, ase certified m tech says:

i have had good luck and service through autozone. the fact that others have ran the same tests and found nothing supports that fact really. sure it is an internally regulated alternator but most of them are any more if not all. you might check the connections to the fuse box or run a parasitic drain test to see if something is not pulling that power down.

My battery keeps draining because of my subs and causes start up to lag what should I do?
I have 2 12″ Kicker Comps with a Kicker 500 Watt Mono Amp. My battery drains and makes my start up on my truck lag and i have to give it gas in order for it to start up. Should I get another battery, alternator, or better battery like a optima. I have a duralast yellow top right now.

    • Mercuri says:

That setup should not be draining your battery that much, i would check for shorts somewhere. Also, if the battery is old i would replace it before doing something more expensive like changing your alternator. Take the battery to you local auto parts store, they will tell you if its still good.

Do electric generators charge the battery used to start the engine?
The battery on my generator just went dead so I hooked the battery charger onto it. I’m not sure if the battery is fully charged yet. Will the generator charge the battery up the rest of the way if I have enough charge to get the engine started?? I didn’t know if the generator worked similarly to a car charging the battery with the alternator. Thanks for your help!!

    • TechnoStuff says:

This depends on the engine. If the engine was equipped with a generator to charge the battery, it will charge the battery, given enough time. Most generators that have electric start will have a generator but I have seen one that did not (I think it was an 8hp, larger ones are more likely to have it).

If you trace the wiring from the battery, you will see that the heavy Pos cable will go to the solenoid (a big relay) and from there will be a couple of smaller wires that go to the key or start button. If you see additional wiring going to a metal box (often with cooling fins), this is probably the charging regulator so you could conclude that it will charge the battery.

If you have a voltmeter, connect it across the battery (without the battery charger) and measure the voltage. Start the engine and check the voltage again. If it is higher, this indicates that the engine is charging the battery. Ideally, it would be about 14 volts (at least 13.5) which will charge the battery. If it is under 13 volts and does not climb up from there, it is probably not charging (or is charging very very slowly).

How come my laptop battery flashes both 25% and 75% when I press the button on the battery?
My laptop hasn’t been working on battery power lately and I want to know if it’s a problem with the actual battery or my laptop. Like I said, the battery power button DIRECTLY ON THE BATTERY is indicating 25% and 75% and that doesn’t make sense to me. Thanks in advance for the help!

A few possibilities come to mind

      1) You have a 2 battery system
      2) You have a bad battery
      3) Your power supply inside the computer has something wrong with it.

Those are just a few reasons, there are still others. Without further information on your system, I can’t give you a more definitive answer.

How do i hardwire an originally battery powered smoke detector? And still maintain a battery backup?
We have battery powered smoke detectors. I was hoping to hard wire an ac/dc adapter that gives it same , 9V (not sure amps), directly to the battery leads.

I would previously just remove the battery but hoping I can leave some type of battery back up in case power goes out.

Can I just put in a rechargable 9V battery into where I now already have 9V dc coming into the leads?

Thanks for any insight and help.

    • tinkertailorcandlestickmaker says:

That doesn’t sound like a very good idea to me, line powered (with battery back up) detectors are readily available and not too expensive.

Most rechargeables require the charging voltage be somewhat higher than the battery voltage, just connecting a rechargeable battery to the DC input gives the problem of either not reaching full charge, or over charging.

You could try using diodes to isolate the adapter and the battery (non-rechargeable), but due to the voltage drop of the diode, you may get a low battery warning if the power goes off, even with a good battery. Also, a cheap adapter may not provide very “clean” DC, and a battery powered smoke detector would have been designed assuming no ripple and a fairly stable voltage.

Will a watch battery work in a disposable camera?
Would it be possible to substitute a thin watch battery for a AA battery in a disposable camera because we found that the camera does not need the whole AA battery. Also, would it be possible to charge the flash by winding the same part used to advance the film? This is for a school project and if you have any other ideas on how to improve a disposable camera, it would really help. Thanks.
We are supposed to make the camera cheaper and more sustainable so if we could eliminate parts that could be substituted for smaller parts, it could make the camera smaller, thus cheaper.

    • Peter H says:

A watch battery would be quickly exhausted by being used in a camera, particularly if you used the flash. The AA battery is a quicker and cheaper solution. In most cameras the flash has a switch of its own, and is not activated by the winder.

Why does the battery in my car drain while driving and the alternator and battery has tested good?
We have put a charger on the car and the charge holds while the car is off. But when driving the car the battery drains in less than an hour. The alternator has been tested and shows to be good. The new battery has been tested and shows to be good. The head connectors for the battery have been changed. The problem is still occurring. What could the problem be?

    • Country Boy says:

You almost answered your own question. The fact of the matter is the battery is draining because of *lack of voltage. And what provides your battery with a re-charge of voltage? Your alternator.

How did they test it and what did they tell you? It’s pretty obvious it’s not charging between 13.5 – 14.0 volts with the engine running. Essentially the battery is used for starting, playing the radio with the engine off for a short period of time and four way-flasher use in emergencies. The alternator on the otherhand provides amperage to every electrical circuit in the car when the engine is running.

If it works with a single AA battery, 1.5 volts, then it may work with any battery that puts out about 1.5 volts. But it won’t last very long, and the flash recharge, which uses a lot of current, may not work with a weaker battery.

Some watch batteries put out 3 volts, be careful.

A 12V car battery is rated at 120 Ah.
Assuming that the terminal voltage remains l2V, for how long can this battery supply power at 29 W?
      W = AV –> A = W/V —> 29W @ 12V needs 29/12 amps
Rated at 120 AH so it will run for 120/[29/12] hours
How much charge flows through the battery in this time?
      1 A = 1 Coulomb/second
How much energy is initially stored in the battery?
      120AH x 12V = 1440 WH = 1440 x 60 x 60 J

If the voltage increases back to about 14 or 14.5 when the engine is above idle, your OK. If not, go to an auto electric specialist for diagnostic. The alternator is not designed to put out max amps at idle.

    2. Dual purpose starting/deep cycle battery.

When reading the CCA specs, both battery types have the same CCA.

Why would I not choose the dual purpose battery so I can have more amp hours/reserve capacity?

Do the CCA of a dual purpose battery not last as long as a starting battery?

I was wondering if it was the computer causing the battery to go dead.

    • green72montecarlo says:

Well if you have a new battery the litte needed power from the computer(when car is off) should NOT be the reason your batts are dieing because plenty of people drive 02 explorers and are not having this problem. So if i was you i would get my alternator checked. Im pretty sure autozone does it for free.

Battery will not charge on dump trailer while connected to vehicle?
It is a PJ Dump Trailer and is hooked up to a Ford E-350 van. It has the fuse relay for charging trailer batteries and it is good. The fuse in the fuse box is also good. When I put a voltage meter to the van end of the plug, its putting out 13.0 volts. So the van is working. For some reason, it will not charge the battery in the dump trailer. The battery is a Marine Deep Cycle by Interstate.

    • Handyman says:

If the battery charges while it’s unhooked from the trailer, but wont charge when it’s hooked up to the trailer . You most have a wire or battery cable that’s grounding out to the trailer frame, check the wiring to see if you see it rubbing some where on the trailer.

What kind of battery is compatible with this digital camera?
My digital camera is a Canon Powershot A530. I use Duracell’s batteries for it, but after I take about 20 pictures, it starts to act up and says to change the batteries, and will take maybe one picture, then shut off on its own. I’ve gathered that maybe the batteries I use are not compatible with my camera, but I don’t know which batteries are. If you happen to know which battery works well with this kind of camera, well please answer. 🙂 Thanks.

    • Cat Lover says:

Are you using rechargeables? I have a Powershot A540 and I use the Sanyo eneloop AAs. They come charged and stay charged out of the camera, and seem to last a long time in the camera, too. Regular batteries do not have enough power for a digital camera. Buy some rechargeables and a charger. I think you will have better luck. Just don’t spend a lot of time looking at the pictures you have already taken. That will run the batteries down fast.

What causes a battery not to hold a charge?
My cousin and I were debating over this last night. I unplug my laptop once it is fully charge and he said that leaving it plugged in after it is charged isn’t what damages the battery but it is charging it before the battery is low. What do you think/know? I am a college student and would like this (brand new) battery to last me for at least the next four years.

    • John C says:

Charging it before the battery is low, is not a problem, and neither is leaving it plugged in once it has charged. It should switch over to AC power once it has charged. Rechargeable batteries can only be recharged so many times. Your best bet for keeping your battery for 4 years is to not use it that much. Use AC power when ever possible!

Why do certain battery types work well in some devices but badly in others?
Like for instance, standard alkaline batteries work badly in digital cameras. I would think a battery is a battery. Why is this??

    • billrussell42 says:

Cameras need, for the flash, a battery that can deliver a high current for a brief period as the caps charge up for the next flash.

That means the battery has to have a low internal resistance, and not all batteries are good in this area.

There are not many other distinguishing features of batteries. The only ones that come to mind is the ability to hold charge for a long period, or the ability to hold a lot of energy.

What type of motor and battery would I need to make a human-powered generator?
I had a 350W AC motor that did not work for this purpose. Do I need to have a DC motor? Also, what type of battery should I use? Obviously, it must be rechargeable so should I go with a lead-acid battery? This system will have a human-powered crankshaft, a motor, a battery, an inverter, and will need to produce 100W maximum to charge my laptop battery through the inverter.

    • EE Abe says:

A permanent magnet DC motor would be the simplest. Then you don’t need to provide any field current, you just spin the motor. I question the need for an inverter if you are charging a laptop battery. Perhaps you can skip the inverter, bypass the normal laptop power supply, and just provide DC input.

The battery you choose should depend on how long you want it to last. If you are just using it to charge another battery, I don’t see why you need a battery at all, or maybe just a lightweight NiCad as a buffer, but I think you can definitely avoid carrying around a heavy lead acid battery.

I’d recommend looking at what input you really need for the laptop, and then think about a simple circuit to regulate the charge from a simple DC generator.

What is proper voltage for battery for 1997 Cadillac Deville?
I just had to have a brand new alternator and battery (best one sold – or at least most expensive – at Sears Auto which was the only shop open this weekend when car broke down). At night with lights on the battery ranges from 11.8 volts when at idle to 12.5 while driving. During the day the battery ranges from 12.2 volts to 13.1 volts. I’ve been told this is too low (especially the night voltage) with brand new alternator & battery. Could there be another problem?

The problem is a defective alternator, they probably got it from auto zone. Take the car back to Sears and tell them what is going on, I am sure they will resolve the problem at no cost to you.

What will cause a battery to lose its charge when it sits?
I have a 98 gmc sierra 2500 with a vortec 350. I cleaned the battery terminals & cables. It runs fine when it starts. I went to checker and had them test my battery and they said it was fine. Im not sure if I believe them or not. I am just wondering what would cause the battery to lose its power.

    • Lover not a Fighter says:

There are several factor that cause your battery dies.

The first is that when the battery is cold, their chemical reaction slows down and they are not as powerful.

And when it is cold it doesn’t take charge as easily either. Then your on boad electronics (clocks, etc.) slowly drain the already weak battery.

Sometimes I find that if I charge the battery in my car garage using an external charger, it will “fully” charge the battery and it won’t have any problems for up to a year.

      Good luck.

What battery charger and booster pack should I buy for my car?
I drive a 1992 Acura Integra. I want to buy a battery charger and booster pack for it.

I just checked my battery and I cannot find the voltage anywhere on it…does anyone know where to find this? Or can someone tell me based on the car I drive? My manual will not specify my battery specs.

For my booster pack: I’ve noticed they come with varying amps- how do I know which one is right for my car?

What kind of battery do I need to power an inverter and can it be charged by a gas generator?
New to this system. I recently bought a gas powered generator for outdoor use—wanting to use it sparingly, I would like to purchase a battery and inverter that will provide necessary power for my low-watt tools and appliances—with the generator being used to charge the battery when it runs out, and power more watt-heavy equipment—like my power tools.

I am looking for battery/inverter options and the wiring that would go with them to 1) charge the battery, and 2) connect the battery to the inverter.

    Thanks in advance!

The battery keeps draining in my van. How can I tell if it’s a bad battery or a short circuit?
I disconnected the positive cable and put a multimeter between the cable and battery post and it was reading 10 volts. What should it read? Should I be testing for volts or ohms?

    • K R says:

With the introduction of on-board computers, memory radios, memory seats, and other accessories, current is required to
maintain memories when the ignition switch is in the off position. As a result of the required continuous energy supply, testing methods have changed. If we use the conventional means, inaccurate conclusions can result in condemning good parts and circuits, and wasting a lot of
      diagnostic time.

      TESTING FOR ELECTRICAL DRAINS
The desired test instrument is a Digital Ammeter capable of reading as low as one milliamp and up to 20 amps. Meters of a lower amp range can be used by forming a shunt using two
jumper wires connected by alligator clips. Reason: the wake-up call necessary to charge the capacitors in a full option state-of-the-art automotive electrical system can require as much as 6 amps for one minute. Many digital meters are
fused at 2 amps and therefore have withdrawal symptoms when subjected to this much current.

The shunt allows the system to properly power up the capacitors while protecting the meter from excessive current loads. Once the capacitors are charged, disconnect the shunt and read the ammeter for actual drain.

      HOW MUCH IS TOO MUCH?
Some tech manuals which include a Battery Testing Section reflect acceptable current drains. Listed is a typical example of a parasitic drain (load) for a General Motors Vehicle.

      EXAMPLES OF PARASITIC LOADS
      Device Milliamp Draw
      Voltage Regulator 1 – 2
      Digital Clock 3 – 4.5
      Quartz Clock 7
      ECM 6.5 – 8
      ETR Radio & Clock 7
      Load Leveling 4
      Memory Seat 3
      Twilight Sentinel 3

CONVENTIONAL TESTING METHODS MAY BE ILLUSIVE
Conventional electrical drain test procedures may not identify the cause of the condition. Vehicles equipped with Electronic Control Modules can exhibit a failure mode within the ECM which can result in a high parasitic current drain on the battery. Conventional testing methods may not detect the cause. Reason: when the battery cable is disconnected, the solid state circuit which caused the excessive drain may
not re-occur once the electrical circuit continuity is restored. Cycling the ignition switch to the run position, then back to the off position may cause the electrical drain to re-occur. Caution: the ignition switch should not be turned to the
accessory, run, or start position with the ammeter installed in series with the battery terminal and battery cable as damage to the meter may result. Only turn the switch to the run position
after first installing a shunt across the ammeter.
A full option GM vehicle can experience a parasitic load of 25-35 milliamps. Remember, a milliamp is one thousandth of an amp. Twenty five thousandths of an amp is not much current.
Should you determine the current draw exceeds the allowable limit as specified by the manufacturer, it will be necessary to identify the circuit which is creating the draw. It’s best to use the process of elimination. Look for the obvious.
Check the lamp circuits (courtesy, glove box, trunk lamp, etc.) for bulbs illuminated when they shouldn’t be. For example, a glove box or trunk lamp may remain illuminated when the lid
or door is closed. To check the trunk lamp it will be necessary to get in there with it. Caution: make sure you have a helper, and most importantly, make sure he is your friend.
If the visual inspection fails to identify the drain, pull fuses, one at a time, to find the source. Remember, if the fuse box is in the glove box, the bulb will be illuminated when the door is open. Either record its draw or disconnect the bulb. Once you identify the circuit creating the draw, refer to the service manual or a wiring diagram to determine what devices are on that circuit. Disconnecting these devices one at a time should reveal the problem circuit. If pulling fuses fails to identify the drain, it may be necessary to disconnect relays one at a time. It is simply a process of elimination, isolating
circuits to identify the problem circuit. Remember, anything operated by a switch is a likely candidate in causing current drain.

      Tool:
      AMMETER
      BATTERY
      POSITIVE CABLE
      NEGATIVE CABLE
      JUMPER WIRES
      WITH CLIPS
      1. Make certain the ignition switch is in the Lock position and all electrical accessories are off and doors closed. If equipped with a hood lamp, remove the bulb or disconnect its electrical connector.
      2. Fabricate two 12 gauge jumper wires equipped with alligator clips on each end. Install the jumper wires in series with the negative battery post and cable. Next, attach the recommended ammeter test leads in parallel with the jumper wires .
      3. Rotate the ignition switch to the Run position. Caution: Do not rotate the ignition switch to the Start position as the test leads and ammeter will get very hot, and damage to the vehicle and wiring harness may result.
      4. Rotate the ignition switch back to the Lock position. Make certain that electrical continuity between the negative battery post and cable is not interrupted. Allow a one minute wait after placing the switch in the Lock position. The wait allows the capacitors time to charge (failure to do so may result
      in misdiagnosis).
      5. Disconnect the alligator clips. The ammeter is now in series with the battery post and cable. Read the amp draw on the ammeter and follow the recommended test
procedure if the drain exceeds the allowable parasitic load.

      PARASITIC CURRENT DRAIN
Vehicles equipped with Electronic Control Modules can exhibit a failure mode within the ECM which can result in a high parasitic current drain on the battery. The conventional testing methods may not detect the cause. ignition switch should not be turned to the accessory, run, or
start position with the ammeter installed in series with the
battery post and battery cable. If you do, your ammeter can
      turn into a crispy critter.

      TESTING FOR ELECTRICAL DRAINS
The desired test instrument is a Digital Ammeter capable
of reading as low as one milliamp and up to 20 amps. Meters
of a lower amp range can be used by forming a shunt using

system to power up the capacitors while protecting the meter
from excessive current loads. Once the capacitors are charged, disconnect the shunt and read the ammeter for actual drain.

      HOW MUCH IS TOO MUCH
Some tech manuals may include a Battery Testing Section
that lists acceptable current drains. Times change … and so
do testing procedures. Coping with all the changes doesn’t have to be a drain. Years ago, we would disconnect a battery cable, make certain all electrical accessories were turned off and the doors closed; then touch the disconnected battery cable connector to the battery post while observing
for an arc. No arc — no drain.
Some technicians used voltmeters attached in series with the disconnected battery cable and battery post. This is not a valid test to determine electrical drain. Unfortunately,
some still utilize this method and thereby condemn many good parts, in addition to wasting diagnostic time.

How long is a car battery supposed to last?
I have an ’07 Mustang I bought new. It has less than 27,000 miles on it. I’ve been informed that it needs a new battery, but it seems like this NEW battery in a NEW car didn’t last very long. I’ve bought used cars with the original battery that lasted longer – a 3 yrs old car with over 70,000 miles on it, drove for 2 more years on the original battery. So how long SHOULD a car battery last?
Thank You for your answers – glad I bought that extended warrenty! 😉

That’s ford for ya~! But no…really…if you live in an area with extreme changes in temperature as well as sea salt in the air, it’s going to be a factor in the life of the battery. Mileage doesn’t really matter for batteries per se as the alternator is what handles most of the load during driving.

What I would do (prior to replacing the battery) is check the cables from the alternator to the battery to make sure they aren’t corroded or loose and preventing the battery from getting charged during driving.

And if you need a new battery I would suggest getting a Braille daily driving battery (not a racing battery). You’ll cut about 10 pounds in battery weight and get at least 50k out of them. Excellent batteries…but you almost always need to special order them or buy them online. Believe it or not a better quality battery CAN increase gas mileage (based on weight; and electrical stability to the fuel delivery and ignition systems) but generally not more than 1-2mpg.
